Red Lady Papaya
Carica Papaya 'Red Lady'
Red Lady Papayas have been declared sweeter and overall better than store bought papayas by many. This variety has a high yield of fruit, which has a sweet, slight melon flavor. Let the fruit stay on the tree until 1/3 of the skin has changed color, then allow it to ripen at room temperature. The longer it sits, the sweeter it will be!
- Full Sun
- Water Regularly
- USDA Zone: 9-11
Care
This papaya will reach 20-30 feet tall. When planting your papaya, make sure it is at least 10 feet away from other trees, buildings, and other obstructions. Avoid planting your papaya in an area prone to flooding. Pruning is not required as their main growing point is at the ends of the branches, and if they are cut off the plant will not be as productive. Papayas thrive in most soils, but require well-draining soil. Water regularly until established.
