Dwarf Cavendish
Musa acuminata 'Dwarf Cavendish'
Musa Dwarf Cavendish is a great indoor container plant. This tree can grow up to 6 feet tall over time and produces edible bananas. The Musa Dwarf Cavendish can produce new leaves relatively quickly, sprouting new growth almost every 10 days if conditions are good enough. Dwarf Cavendish banana trees produce large flowers, which later turn into green fruit that change to yellow as they ripen. Young Dwarf Cavendish trees sometimes have purple-brown coloration on its leaves that will go away as the tree ages. This banana tree's bananas have a white edible interior and are 6-10 inches long. The fruit is sweet and smooth; just like the banana we all know and love!
Care
Dwarf Cavendish banana trees require well-draining loamy soils. Root rot is a common killer of banana trees, so do not let the plant sit in water for prolonged periods of time. However, you should keep the soil moist (not wet). Banana trees that are planted in pots or containers will require more frequent watering than those that are planted in the ground. You can fertilize your banana tree once every 2 months to maintain the soil quality. A good choice is 6-2-12 fertilizer (6% nitrogen, 2% phosphorus, and 12% potassium). The higher percentages of potassium and nitrogen will encourage more greenery and will increase the quality of the bananas it yields. Dwarf Cavendish banana trees also need plenty of sunlight. Choose a place that receives a lot of sun. If your tree is indoors, be sure to keep it by a bright window. However, keep in mind that young banana trees are more fragile and can scorch in hot, direct sunlight.

Houseplant Information
Banana trees enjoy humus-like well-draining soil and lots of sunlight. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings and do not allow the trees to sit in water for extended periods.
