Coffee Arabica
Coffea arabica
Coffee plants showcase glossy, green foliage. In addition to their ornamental uses, Arabica Coffee produce half-inch long cherry-like red fruits, all of which have 2 seeds inside that you can dry roast, grind, and brew to make your own coffee! The plant produces these fruits all year-round. (Refrain from ingesting any other part of the coffee plant, as it is considered toxic.) The coffee plant grows to be 6 feet tall when mature. While coffee plants grow into small trees, they also make for popular indoor plants which can be pruned to maintain a smaller size.
- Full to partial sun
- Water regularly
- USDA Zone: 9-11
Care
The foliage of a coffee plant can be scorched by sunlight that is too direct and bright. Therefore, it is best to give your coffee plant bright, indirect sunlight if you are using it as a houseplant, or provide it with only partial sun if it is outside. Coffee Arabica likes well-draining, slightly acidic soil. This can be achieved with a basic potting mix with peat moss as an additive. The peat moss provides organic matter and aeration. These plants require a good deal of water, but should never be waterlogged. It is best to water frequently, maintaining moist soil (not wet). Do not let the soil dry out.
